Shall we dance?

Two years ago, a bomb went off. It was me, bombing my longterm, long-suffering website featuring everything I'd ever done for nearly two decades. I might as well have built a shrine to myself. It became a lot like visiting my own funeral. Paying tribute to someone who gave up the ghost a long time ago.

So here I am, finally having fun post-mortem. No longer under pressure to MAKE ART PAY, I finally have the desire to make "art," which is code for "whatever makes me smirk and seek out volunteers."

But really, nothing has changed. It has only been unchained.

If you know my portrait work from "the living years" you know that I have always been very much about making a connection and bringing out the essence of the person I am lucky enough to photograph. That is still true. And I am still working in black and white exclusively (when I photograph). And lighting is still everything, and technique is still there to (mostly) get out of the way.

The real difference is, now I have fun collaborating with each subject to amplify their essence in a fun, and also slightly cynical, way. It is freeing for me, and it is freeing for them. I've found that people who have run away from the lens for years will jump into the frame when they aren't trying to look like a perfect version of themselves.

This is not a photography site. It is an inside view into how I live my daily life, with a single creative lifeline running through it all and uniting all the different parts of my heart and mind. It's just what the inside of my head looks like. I'll show you what I'm doing, what I'm trying, what makes me laugh, and sometimes, what I am gleefully failing at. (At which I'm gleefully failing?)

So if you are intrigued, I invite you to listen for the music (literally and figuratively) and come dance with me.
